Lance began training jiu jitsu in 2008. In 2011, he moved to Los Angeles to train under Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles, where Cobrinha would later award Lance his black belt and 1st degree. While training under Cobrinha, Lance made numerous podiums, including winning the 2013 Pan American championship. After several years as a full-time competitor, 2 major knee surgeries led Lance back to school to pursue a Ph.D. in Physics. During his graduate studies, Lance discovered a passion for teaching jiu jitsu, where he feels the most inspired when he can be a part of his students’ growth and development and helping his community grow.
Colton sample
Head Coach - No Gi
Colton Sample began training Jiu Jitsu in 2015 at a small local gym in Springfield, Oregon, where in spite of small class sizes he would eventually fall in love with the martial art. Colton would then go on to train and coach alongside some of the best Jiu Jitsu practitioners in the world before eventually earning his black belt under Lucas “Hulk” Barbosa. Colton prides himself on his ability to see each student as an individual, and to communicate in a way that best serves each person’s unique Jiu Jitsu Journey.
sal martinez
Sal began training in 2012 and would go on to receive his Black Belt from Gustavo Pires in 2026. He began coaching in 2017 and has taught all levels from adults to kids as young as 3 years old. At every level, his goal has always been to consistently provide a fun, safe, and encouraging training environment. He takes great care in structuring classes so where every drill, technique, and exercise is purposeful toward the learning and retention of new skills.
